Scope and Contents
Small collection of papers of Dr. Mervin T. Sudler, who served as the third dean of the KU School of Medicine from 1921 to 1924.
The collection contains surgery and gynecology notes, certificates, diplomas, photographs, reprints, manuscripts, and ephemera.

Conditions Governing Access
Some folders are restricted because of their sensitive nature or because they contain personal or confidential information. Access may be allowed on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the KUMC Archives and only after a proposal has been reviewed and approved by the University of Kansas Human Subjects Committee. Biographical / Historical
Mervin Tubman Sudler was born on August 9, 1875 in Westover, Maryland, to Albert and Alice (Musselman) Sudler. Sudler received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins in 1899 and his M.D. from the College of Physicians and Surgeons (now University of Maryland) in 1901. He joined the faculty of the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1905 as the Dean of the Scientific Department and instructor of Anatomy, reaching full Professor status in 1906. He was named Dean of the School of Medicine in 1921. He retired in 1924 and was succeeded by Harry Roswell Wahl, M.D. Dr. Sudler died on June 22, 1956.

Custodial History
The collection was donated to the Clendening History of Medicine Library by LaVerne Aitken Sudler following Dr. Sudler’s death in 1956 and cataloged under call number W 7 Su22p [1899-1954] Ms. The collection was transferred to the University of Kansas Medical Center Archives in the early 2000s.
