Ethel McMichael scrapbook
Scope and Contents
Scrapbook compiled by Ethel Marie McMichael, a 1946 graduate of the KU Department of Nursing Education (now School of Nursing). The scrapbook documents her undergraduate career at Kansas State College of Agriculture and Applied Science and her time as a nursing student at the University of Kansas, and contains news clippings, correspondence, photographs, and assorted ephemera.

Conditions Governing Access
Some folders are restricted because of their sensitive nature or because they contain personal or confidential information. These records are protected by federal laws such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Examples of restricted records are personnel files, medical records, financial records, and any materials containing personal information such as addresses and social security numbers. Access may be allowed on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the KUMC Archives and only after a proposal has been reviewed and approved by the University of Kansas Human Subjects Committee. Biographical / Historical
Ethel Marie McMichael was born on December 17, 1922, in Penalosa, Kansas, to Frances Edward and Isis Pearl (McCormac) McMichael. Ethel attended Kansas State College from 1940 to 1943 and the University of Kansas clinical nursing program from 1943 to 1946, where she graduated with a combined degree of BS in Home Economics and certificate in Nursing as a member of the Nurse Cadet Corps. She died on September 18, 2007, at age 84.

Arrangement
The scrapbook retains its original order, though it has been disassembled and placed in Mylar sheets for preservation purposes. Loose photographs and clippings were collected in an envelope with the scrapbook.
