Conditions Governing Access

Some folders are restricted because of their sensitive nature or because they contain personal or confidential information. Biographical / Historical

A native of Concordia, Kansas, Dr. Lemoine received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kansas in 1913 and a doctor of medicine degree in 1915. After serving as a First Lieutenant in World War I, he completed graduate work in ophthalmology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and at the Harvard Medical School. In 1923, he returned to Kansas City, where he began practicing as an eye specialist, and in 1927; he completed post-graduate work in Vienna. In addition to serving as a clinical professor of ophthalmology at the University of Kansas Medical Center from 1950 to 1954, he was a former Chief of Staff of General Hospital and Mercy Hospital.

Dr. Lemoine was a past president of the Kansa City Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Society and of the Jackson County Medical Society, a member of the Missouri State Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the American Ophthalmological Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, the American College of Surgeons, and the Southwest Clinical Society. In addition, he published over twenty-five articles in various medical journals. Dr. Lemoine died on 31 August 1957 at the age of 72. Dr. Lemoine’s son, Albert Jr., served as the chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at KUMC from 1950 to 1980.
