Samuel J. Crumbine papers
Scope and Contents
Papers of Dr. Samuel J. Crumbine, who served as the second dean of the KU School of Medicine from 1911 to 1919. Before joining the School of Medicine, Dr. Crumbine moved the state of Kansas into the forefront of public health issues as secretary of the Kansas State Board of Health, where he crusaded against spitting on sidewalks, sharing communal drinking cups on trains and roller towels in public restrooms, and swatting flies to prevent the spread of disease.
The collection contains correspondence, manuscripts, reprints, public health course lectures, newsletters, news clippings, ledgers, photographs, scrapbooks, and assorted ephemera.
